Hello,
My video isn’t filling up the entire video screen. Attachement available.
Shoot and editing in fcpx in standard wide screen format. First time having this problem.

Hey Tristian,
Your original video has some oddness going on with it’s metadata. (See attachment).
The video is supposed to be 1920X1080, but your metadata is telling the system to interpret it as 1280X1080 which is throwing everything off.
Let me see if I can fix it for you. Back in a few.

replied 4 years ago thanks. I went back to fcpx to confirm it was exported at 1920 x 1080 and it was.

Ok you are all set.
So, here is what you need to look for. It isn’t just the resolution settings because those can look correct, but if your aspect ratio settings are different, it won’t work right.
Also you want to see if there is a setting checked that says Anamorphic. That will change it up as well.
If you are on MAC, it you can use Quicktime to view the metadata to see if the actual size and the display size match. I am sure there is an equivalent tool in Windows, probably Windows Media Player.
But, I got you fixed up and re-encoded your original so that it was full 1920X1080 in both actual size and playable size.

I have 7 more of these video pre-recorded in the same way that will most likely have the same issue when I upload them. Can you show me what to look for and edit before I upload? I could not find the settings you mentioned.
Using Mac, fcpx, and quicktime.

Yep. So, if these are videos that you are importing into Final Cut, then I would first open up the original before final cut and check the metadata. Do that by opening it in Quicktime and clicking Window in the menu bar and then clicking Movie Inspector. This will give you the metadata. Make sure the resolutions match the aspect ratio.
I am attaching images of what it should look like fixed vs what it looked like before.
I don’t have final cut installed on this computer, but you need to:
- Make sure your timeline is set to 16:9 aspect ration and 1920X1080 resolution. Or substitute 1280X720 if your video is not full HD.
- Make sure your export settings are set to 1920X1080.
- Make sure your aspect ratio in your export settings are set to 16:9.
Again, see if there is an anamorphic setting that is checked off.
If you want to send me a screenshot of your settings, that would be cool too.
