Make empty subtitle boxes invisible

Hi there, I’m trying to make the empty subtitle boxes invisible. I have tried selecting that option from the caption settings dropdown by clicking on that option but this is not doing anything. There is no indication that this has been selected after clicking on it and the empty subtitle boxes are still showing up. Help!
