Transcription not working

HelpdeskCategory: QuestionsTranscription not working
Julie Williams asked 3 years ago

I have uploaded about 4 different videos over the past two days and the transcriptions are not working. I’ve tried uploading videos that have successfully been used in the past and the only thing that comes up is things like hhmmm, yeah. I’ve tried logging into clipscripe via different platforms such as google chrome and safari and this still makes no difference. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

@Julie Williams Hey Julie, ok, so I re-ran each of these and then we have a back-up system we use that is a totally different transcription system and I ran them through that, and it came out blank, so something odd going on with the original video as far as I can tell. Is there anything different about these videos? i.e. did you record them differently than any of your previous videos?

I am still going to try to fix the issue, but will probably have to manually run them through some other processes, so I think the most important thing is to try to determine what is different about how they were shot or recorded to prevent it from happening going forward. Seems like I remember this happening once before with another user’s video, but it has been quite a while.

Any details you can give on how the video was recorded or transferred or re-encoded after recorded would help. Let me work on these on my end and see if I can figure anything out for you in the meantime.

Thanks!
Craig

@Julie Williams Hey Julie,
Ok, so I took your video and used a traditional video editor to export the audio into other formats and the same thing happens.
As I remember, the last time this happened, the issue seemed to be hardcoded into the video and so even re-encoding it to other formats didn’t work. The only thing I was able to do was manually re-record the audio by holding my phone up to the speaker and then using that new audio file to create the subtitles.
I know that sounds crazy, but that was the only way it could be resolved as the original was corrupted somehow.

So, I could do that for you just to get you on your way, but if you happen to have an original video file (i.e. you took the original and then ran it through some other software before uploading it to ClipScribe) then we could try that. It is possible the video was corrupted in some way by some other software.
If you do, you can upload the original to this dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/request/zFiEJlm3pEn1ACLXepr5

Just let me know if you don’t mind when you have uploaded them.

If you don’t, then let me know and I will try to fix them manually for you. Looks like there are three? Looks like you might have re-uploaded, so if you could just let me know the filenames so I don’t redo the same file twice that would be helpful.

Thanks!

Hi Craig,
These have all been filmed, edited and run through handbrake just like every other video we’ve done. I will try and upload the high resolution video but this will take a long time but we can see if it makes any difference.

Thank you for your help.

@Julie Williams Any chance you can export the audio only from the original and send it to me? You can use the dropbox link above. I wish I could remember what this issue was called previously so I could make recommendations, but it has only happened once before. But if the issue is in the original, it won’t make a difference. If you can send the audio fine, if not, I will just manually correct these so you can move on. Do you have a specific deadline?
