Question on two videos needing the same captions

HelpdeskCategory: QuestionsQuestion on two videos needing the same captions

Hi there,

I usually have 2 videos that need the same captions. One for FB and one for Instagram. Is there a way to save captions and just apply to 2nd video or do I have to do each video separately? I’ve been doing separately. Just curious.

Thanks,

Judith

Hi Judith,

I actually just answered a similar question on our FB user group this morning:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/1832981170210483

I will paste the answer here:

Click the COPY button (next to the SAVE and MAKE buttons). You can choose another layout or the same layout to copy too. BUT, it will ask you if you want to clone your subtitles or use the master.

If you clone them, you will have a unique set of subs for that new layout ONLY, so any edits you make will be specific to that new layout/version.

Recommended workflow:

  1. Design and edit your favorite layout that is the basis for your design and make your primary subtitle edits.
  2. Then copy it over to your other layouts and clone your subs.

    A couple of pro tips:

If you like double spaced subtitles, there is an option in the subtitle options menu to add a line break after a certain number of words.

BUT there is also an option to remove line breaks, so if you have manually added any you can remove them.

I like line breaks in my square/vertical videos, but NOT in my horizontal videos, so when I copy over to a horizontal layout, I clone my subtitles and then remove all of my line breaks so all of my subtitles will be one a single line. Lower the font size and I am all set. 🙂

Let me know if I can help further.

Thanks!

Craig

But can I upload 2 different size videos? I have an insta video and a FB video. I of course size the Insta different and often have to move image over. When I copied the original video I uploaded it just took from the video I already uploaded and put it in a 1:1 size but the subject was too far to left. So basically I don’t want to reuse the original because it won’t be centered enough for me. But I was hoping I could still use the initial captions on both videos.

@Judith George You might want to consider shooting one horizontal video and using it for both FB and Instagram. This video shows you how to do that. https://clipscribe.com/the-igtv-cut/

If you upload an HD video this will work great.

However, if you have a situation where you need to do it the way you mentioned, you could download the SRT file and then re-upload it to the separate video. You can download it either from the In Progress tab or from the editor export options (next to the download button.)

Then you can import it on your other video in the editor from the subtitle options drop-down menu.
Let me know if you need any help or clarification on this.
Thanks!
